Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 2026
Our Commitment to You
Apps for Change is a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We build free mobile apps to help everyday people build resilience, practice self-advocacy, support caregiving, and improve their lives. Your privacy matters deeply to us. This policy explains in plain language what we collect, why, and how we protect your information.
1. Who We Are
Apps for Change is a nonprofit organization incorporated in Minnesota. We build free mobile applications for community members — not for sale, not for profit. Our apps are provided at no cost and are designed with your wellbeing and privacy in mind.

2. What Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to make our apps work. Depending on which app you use, we may collect:
Information You Give Us
- Your name or a username (if you create an account or profile)
- Your email address (if you choose to register or contact us)
- Responses or entries you make inside the app (such as goals, journal entries, or self-assessment answers)
Information Collected Automatically
- Basic device information (such as device type and operating system version) to ensure the app works properly
- App usage data (such as which features you use) to help us improve the app
- Crash and error reports, so we can fix problems quickly
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your precise location
- We do not collect your contacts, photos, or files
- We do not collect sensitive health or financial information
- We do not build advertising profiles or sell your data
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information only to:
- Provide and improve the features of our apps
- Fix bugs and technical problems
- Understand how our apps are used so we can serve our community better
- Respond to your questions or support requests
We do not use your information for advertising. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone, ever.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your information. We may share limited information only in these circumstances:
Service Providers
We may use trusted third-party services to help operate our apps (for example, cloud storage or crash reporting tools). These providers are only allowed to use your information to help us deliver our service — not for their own purposes.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights or safety of our users or the public.
No Sale of Data
Apps for Change will never sell your personal information to third parties for any purpose.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data stays on your device. All information you enter into our apps is stored locally on your phone and is never transmitted to our servers or stored in the cloud. This means:
- Your personal entries, goals, and responses remain private on your device
- If you delete the app, your locally stored data is removed with it
- We do not have access to the content you enter inside the app
For any limited technical data that may be collected (such as anonymous crash reports), we take reasonable steps to protect that information, including secure transmission and limiting access to only those who need it.
6. Data Retention
Because your data is stored locally on your device, you are in control of it at all times. You can delete the app at any time to remove all locally stored data. Any limited technical data we may collect (such as anonymous crash reports) is retained only as long as necessary to diagnose and fix issues.
7. Children's Privacy
Our apps are designed for general audiences and are not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
If our app is intended for or may be used by minors, we take additional steps to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable state laws.
8. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access and review all data you have entered — it is stored on your own device
- Delete your data at any time by clearing app data or uninstalling the app
- Request information about any limited technical data we may hold
- Contact us with any privacy concerns or questions
To reach us with questions or requests, email us at sam@appsforchange.org. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
Our apps may contain links to external websites or resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any external services you use.
10. Cookies and Tracking
Our mobile apps do not use cookies. If you visit our website at appsforchange.org, standard web analytics may be used to understand site traffic. We do not use tracking for advertising purposes.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this document. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. Your continued use of our apps after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
