Our Commitment to You

Apps for Change is a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We build free mobile apps to help people reach goals, practice self-advocacy, stay connected, and build healthier habits. This policy explains in plain language what each app stores, what is synced to our servers, and what is never collected. All four apps are planned for launch in 2027.

1. Who We Are

Apps for Change is a nonprofit organization incorporated in Minnesota. Our apps are free. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not use your data for advertising.

2. How Data Works in Each App

Our apps do not all work the same way. Please read the section for the app you use.

Advocate's Compass

An account is required. Meeting preparation, notes, learning progress, and preferences sync to our hosted servers. Advocate Now uses optional AI: when you ask for a script, what you type is sent to our AI service provider. Scripts are a starting point that you can edit.

Goal Getter

Creating an account is required so your goals, milestones, tasks, calendar items, and life-area progress can sync to our backend. That data is stored on our hosted application server so it is available when you sign in on another device.

Care About You

An account is required. Contacts you add, planned acts of kindness, and completion status sync to our backend. Optional AI suggestions send the selected contact’s name, your notes, and recent task history to a language-model provider so the app can suggest a next kindness. You trigger this only when you tap to generate insights or suggestions.

Beat the Craving

An account is required. Your craving counter and coping-option list (including custom options) sync to our backend so they persist across devices. The counter increases when you choose a coping option, not when you merely open the app. This is wellness tracking, not medical advice and not a diagnostic tool.

3. What Information We Collect

Information you give us

• Name and email, if you create an account (all four apps)
• Content you enter in the app (goals, tasks, contacts, notes, coping options)
• Messages you send to our support or idea inboxes

Information collected automatically

• Basic device and app version information needed to run the app
• Crash or error reports in development builds (production apps should not send logs to third-party debug tools)
• Website traffic on appsforchange.org may use standard hosting analytics

Information we do not collect

• Precise location
• Your phone contacts, photos, or files (unless you later grant a permission we have not enabled today)
• Payment card numbers in the apps (donations, when enabled, are processed by Stripe on this website)
• Advertising identifiers for ads — we do not run ads

4. How We Use Your Information

• Provide the features you asked for (sync, reminders you enable, AI suggestions you request)
• Keep you signed in and recover your account
• Fix bugs and improve the apps
• Respond to support requests

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not use it for advertising.

5. Who Processes Data for Us

We use service providers only to operate the apps and this website. They may process data only to provide that service to us:

• Application hosting / auth — All four apps use hosted servers for accounts and app content.
• AI (Care About You and Advocate's Compass) — optional suggestions send contact context, notes, and recent kindness history to an AI service provider; Advocate Now sends what you type when you request a script. Do not enter information you would not want a processor to see.
• Payments (website) — if donations are enabled, Stripe processes the payment. We do not store your full card number.
• Email — messages you send to support or info inboxes are handled as ordinary email.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.

6. Data Storage and Security

All four apps store account information and entries on our hosted servers.

All four apps store account and app content on our hosted servers so the apps can sync. We use HTTPS and restrict access to people who operate the service. No system is perfectly secure; please use a unique password.

You can delete entries in the apps. To delete your account, email support@appsforchange.org. Uninstalling an app does not delete your account.

7. Data Retention

Account data is kept while your account is open. When you request account deletion, we remove it from active systems within 30 days and from backups within 90 days, unless a limited record is required by law.

8. Children's Privacy

Our apps are for a general audience and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your Rights and Choices

• Access and review data you entered in the app
• Correct or delete entries in the app
• Sign out, or request account deletion by email
• Decline optional AI features in Care About You and Advocate's Compass by not requesting a suggestion or script

10. Cookies and This Website

The mobile apps do not use advertising cookies. This website may use cookies or logs needed to run the site and process donations. We do not use tracking for advertising.

11. Changes to This Policy

When we update this policy we will change the effective date above. If we make a material change (for example, adding a new cloud processor), we will note it here and, where required, in the app.
